Carlsbad Aquafarm Tour
On Tuesday, March 15th, 2016 we were honored by a private tour from President & CEO, Thomas Grimm, of The Carlsbad Aquafarm which has been in operation since 1990; cultivating Mediterranean Blue Mussels, Pacific Oysters and Ogo. The farm has developed a secondary line of products for the marine aquaria trade known as “live-feed” that includes micro and macro algae, copepods, amphipods and brine shrimp. The farm uses sustainable suspended long-line cultivation methods, rigorous lab testing standards and UV purification systems that cause minimal impact on marine habitat and environment. The result is fresh, high quality products with a small carbon footprint. Carlsbad Aquafarm is committed
to sustainable mariculture and pursuing a necessary balance between the demand for responsible seafood production and
the preservation of our oceans’ resources.
The Southwest Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is part of the Pacific Region inaugurated on April 21, 2005 It Encompasses Los Angeles, San Diego, Southern Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Northern Mexico, and Hawaii.
